RAILWAYS
The Shinkansen, a super express bullet train operated by Japan Rail, has a nationwide railway network that connects Kobe with major cities such as Tokyo, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. TRANSPORTATION IN THE CITY
The Port of Kobe is close to the downtown area and can be reached on foot. Additionally, the Port Liner, the world's first fully automated, driverless new transportation system, is directly connected to Port Terminal, one of Kobe’s major passenger terminals. The Port Liner runs between Sannomiya Station, Kobe’s main terminal station, and Kobe Airport. At Sannomiya Station, you can transfer to various modes of transportation such as the JR railway line, subway, private railways, express buses, and local buses, allowing easy access to your sightseeing and shopping destinations.
HIGHWAY NETWORK
The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, the 2nd longest world's suspension bridge at 3,911 meters in length, connects Kobe City with Awaji Island. From Awaji Island, you can also cross over to the island of Shikoku.
SETO INLAND SEA CRUISE
The Port of Kobe serves as a gateway to the Seto Inland Sea for cruises as well. The Seto Inland Sea is the inland sea surrounded by the islands of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. The unique, picturesque scenery of over 700 islands has made it one of the most popular cruise destinations in Japan. Numerous boats come and go through the Seto Inland Sea, enjoying the beautiful views along the way.
